New Roland CR-8000 samples for Archetypal

I’ve recently updated the Archetypal pack with new WAV samples from the 1980 Roland CR-8000 analog drum machine. The CR-8000 sounds like a cross between a TR-808 and CR-78, and looks like an antique cash register. And even though the prices are rising, they’re still a relatively good bargain compared to other early Roland analog drum machines. But why drop $800 or more when you can get a fresh set of CR-8000 round robin samples for the cost of 2 sandwiches?! Even if you have the original machine, you can use these samples to mock-up a song in your DAW with lightning speed while you’re on the go. No need to worry about the original unit’s mono only output, lack of MIDI, or limited presets options.

And of course I ran this classic machine through my favorite chain for drum machines, which is the API 512V mic pre > API 550A EQ > Neve 542 Tape Simulator. I’ve also included a raw kit with no EQ or compression so you can customize them how you see fit. If you’re fan of this machine, like I am, go check out some of Beau Wanzer’s solo albums and side projects to hear some of the possibilities of the CR-8000.
