New Oberheim DX samples for Archetypal Drum Pack

The first 2026 addition to the Archetypal drum sample pack! This time I sampled one of my favorite drum machines of all time – a recently serviced 1983 Oberheim DX. Known for it’s gritty and chunky sound, it makes a perfect complement to other more mid rangey drum machines like the TR-707. This unit came with the stock EPROMs so you’ll be getting the classic default sounds that originally shipped with the DX. There’s also an additional Oberheim DX drum sample set with Simmons EPROMS that was already in the pack. This now puts the Archetypal Sample Pack at over 19,000 samples of hardware drums!

I sampled this particular machine using Vovox cables into an RME UFX III at 48kHz/24-bit. The detail on these is exceptional. These samples will sound just like the original machine so you can stay true to the vintage sound, or process them to create a custom kit. And, as always, they were sampled at different pitch settings with all the nostalgic character of EMU’s pitch shifting artifacts.

As of this date, the average selling price of an Oberheim DX is hoovering around $1000 on Reverb. However one thing that didn’t increase in price is the cost of the Archetypal Sample Pack.
