What’s a Mellotron?
For those unfamiliar, the Mellotron is the legendary tape-based keyboard instrument that defined the sound of 1960s-70s progressive and psychedelic rock. Each key triggers a pre-recorded tape of real orchestral instruments, creating that unmistakable organic, slightly haunting character you hear on classics like The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever,” Radiohead’s “Exit Music,” and countless King Crimson tracks.
Pure Vintage Tone Meets Modern Analog Character
I carefully selected 40 of my favorite Mellotron and Chamberlin instruments and sampled them through my collection of 500 series preamps – with no digital processing or EQ. This approach preserves the authentic hardware sound while adding that subtle transformer magic and analog warmth that makes these samples sit perfectly in any mix.
